About the Exhibition: The Ruth Bancroft Garden features an impressive variety of cacti and unusual succulents blended with drought tolerant trees and shrubs. It provides a spectacular backdrop for artists to display their sculpture throughout the meandering paths of the garden. This exhibition is a fundraiser for the garden. Artists receive 65% of every sale. Last year's sales were $39,000.

Carrie Lederer, Artist, Curator of Bedford Gallery, Walnut Creek, California. Lederer has curated informative, stimulating and provocative exhibitions at the Bedford Gallery for over a decade. Under her guidance, the Bedford Gallery has consistently shown diverse and inspiring work by a broad range of local, national, and international artists. Ms. Lederer’s special talent lies in creating a contextual framework for individual works of art, whether historical, contemporary, or community focused.
Ann Weber, San Francisco Bay area Sculptor. Weber is active in the public art field and has won award commissions for sculpture at the State Capitol building in Sacramento, a public library for the city of Phoenix and two bronze sculptures for Skyline Park in Denver, CO. She has been featured on Spark! a television program on KQED about Bay Area artists, has received a California Arts Council Fellowship Grant and recently was awarded a 6 week residency at the International Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Schwandorf, Germany. She is represented in San Rafael, CA at the Donna Seager Gallery.
Eligibility: Open to sculptures of all media that are appropriate for outdoor gardens. There will be some exposure to automatic sprinklers.
Delivery and Pick-Up Dates: Works must be delivered and installed by the artist June 13, 10 am - 1 pm, or June 17 & 18, 10 am - 3 pm. Pick-up will be July 20 or 21, 10 am - 3 pm or July 25, 10 am - 1 pm.
To Enter: Print and send the completed entry form and a CD (see specifications for images below) with up to 5 entries to the artist coordinator: Laura van Duren, 3272 Woodview Drive, Lafayette, CA 94549. Additional entry forms or copies of prospectus are available by contacting the artist coordinator: firstname.lastname@example.org or www.ruthbancroftgarden.org.
CD File format specifications: Up to five entries allowed, with up to three images of alternate views per entry. Make sure that files are approximately 2 megabytes in size, images are 72 dpi, if measuring files size in pixels, the longest dimension is at least 1920 pixels. Image files should be named with artist name and title of each piece.
Notification: Artists will be notified by email or phone (if no email provided) the week of March 2, 2009
Liability: Artists assume all risk of loss or damage. Note, there is a gated entrance to the garden, which is locked each night and there has never been a problem with theft or damage in the past.
Terms of agreement: Submission of work constitutes an agreement to the conditions set forth and acceptance that the decisions of the jurors are final. The Bancroft Garden may photograph and reproduce accepted work for promotional purposes. Artists may not withdraw accepted entries before the close of the exhibition. CD images must reflect an accurate representation of the work or risk rejection at time of installation. Artists are responsible for installing work and providing waterproof pedestals if needed. All artwork must be for sale to enter exhibition.
February 14: Entries must be postmarked by February 14. 2009
March 2 & 3: Artists notified by email or phone
June 13, 10 am - 1 pm, June 17 & 18, 10 am - 3 pm: Installation of artwork in garden
June 19, 5 - 8 pm: Opening reception with live music, food and wine. This event is also a fundraiser for the garden. Two free tickets will be given to exhibiting artists.
June 18 - July 19: Exhibition open to the public.
June 18 & 19: Artists are encouraged to come for the annual weekend event in the garden.
July 20 & 21, 10 am - 3 pm or July 25, 10 am - 1 pm: pick up artwork
