BECCA HOLLAND

'3EThree' Enamel, Oil and Acrylic 36 x 36 2008 ------ I value the act of painting itself over the subject. The subject has lost all my interest in representing what it could be and what it once was. My work suggests a world where things become warped, twisted, and unrecognizable, and seen as something completely different. My work aspires to exist without added meaning, or cliché, while seeking out tension and open spaces. While I may not always succeed in fulfilling this vision, my painting is a continued experiment that explores the unseen. I like to investigate life that is unseen—painting not what the subject is, but what it’s not: the surrounding space.
