'Mother and Child: Inside Out IV' Silk Screen 16 x 20 ------ In my work the topic of mother and child revolves around the issues of control and freedom, love and frustration, tension and relief, and the specific intimacies involved in the mother-daughter relationship. The goal of this project is to encourage the viewer to look within. The outcome potentially becomes self-awareness through the exploration of one’s own mother-child relationship and by developing that awareness into a better understanding of oneself in relation to another. Though the specific concept that drives my work is the mother and daughter relationship, my work addresses many aspects of relationships. I believe all relationships begin at the time we are conceived inside our mother’s womb. My art brings the intimacy and the interiority of the mother’s womb out into the physical world. I make my own interpretations through silk screening: heat transfer techniques, screen printing, photographic screen printing, hand painting, abstract forms, gestural lines and brush strokes.
